Editors’ Note

OOPS!This has been a season of glitches and gadgetry mishaps as we’ve tried to revive Downgo Sun.  As a result, we have lost many submissions and e-mails.  We apologize to all contributors who may not have heard back from us.  If you wish to check the status of any submission, please contact us at:

downgosun@northeastartskc.org

We promise a prompt reply at this time as we seem to have everything in running order.

A Big Thank You

To Cultures Without Borders for allowing Downgo Sun to include artwork from its galleries.   Please visit the 2010 Spring Exhibit from  March 5 to May 21, 2010.  Exhibit locations and details can be found at the “Cultures Arts” link.

Spring 2010
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!

For a while, it appeared that Downgo Sun would finally set below the western horizon.  Now, it is ready to once again color the autumn sky.  Send us your best short stories, poems and essays.  Write about what moves you!

Downgo Sun is now accepting electronic submissions of prose and poetry year-round.  We usually publish 2 or 3 times a year on-line, but that can vary.

Pen - with “gleam in the downgo sun”Downgo Sun, an e-zine supported by Northeast Arts KC in Kansas City, Missouri, is seeking exquisite literary prose and poetry submissions to satisfy a strong local and widespread interest in this popular voice in the online literary community.

  • Our editorial board is looking forward to reading the finest short stories, nonfiction narratives, novel chapters/excerpts, and poems contemporary writers can offer.  We are not interested in footnoted articles, scholarly articles or genre fiction.

  • Submissions must be sent by email.  No other forms will be accepted.

  • Please send no more than six poems, one piece of creative nonfiction, or one short story per submission.  A Microsoft Word document attached to the email is the preferred format, or copy your work into the body of an e-mail.  Prose works should be no longer than 3,500 words.

  • Please provide a bio of no more than 200 words in which you include your publication record and any awards or honors your writing has received.

  • Please email submissions to the appropriate editor (Fiction Editor, Nonfiction Editor, or Poetry Editor) at:

    downgosun(at)northeastartskc(dot)org

  • We will accept simultaneous submissions.  Please notify us immediately if the work you have sent to us has been accepted for publication elsewhere.

  • We will not publish previously published work.

  • Like most online literary magazines, our staff is small, and the volume of submissions is large, so please be patient.  Do not query us until five months have passed.

  • Like some online literary magazines, our budget is nonexistent.  We cannot offer monetary payment for work that we publish online.  We can offer recognition in an online venue.  All rights revert to the writer upon publication.

Thank you for your interest.  We look forward to hearing from you.
